The settling of disputes with both the federal and state taxing authorities. Dispute resolution specific to taxes takes various forms: in part, preparing for, participating in and defending federal and state audits, ensuring legal and procedural requirements are met, representing taxpayers in IRS Appeals hearings, reaching settlements, penalty and hardship abatements. Petitioning and litigating in U.S. Tax Court, U.S. District Court, and U.S. Bankruptcy Court on federal tax matters and the N.C. Office of Administrative Hearings and N.C. Supreme Court on state tax matters. Finally, we assist by negotiating installment agreements and offers-in-compromise, defending innocent spouse claims, and prosecuting refund claims and suits.
